H2 Zoom Still a Big Seller, Here"s Why
While the Zoom Recorder isn't the very best handheld stereo recorder you can get I've seen a few professional models selling for 2 to 3 times as much. The H2 Zoom has twice as many mics as any other devices of it's kind. There's a couple reasons why lots of them are being sold.
It's list price was a little over $300 when it came out and places have been selling it for well under $200 lately and sometimes even cheaper.
The best things about it are:
- Best all-around bang for your buck
- Suround sound capability due to the multiple on board microphones.
- It's both small in the hand and in the price!
Two features not worth bragging about:
- The display screen could have been a little larger.
- Built-in limiter is a little slow to react
One of the most useful features for me with this Zoom Recorder is that it records both MP3 and WAV formats… and in several different resolutions. So, for those important events you can select the pro audio setting of 24-bit/96kHz. You can save a ton of memory and record at an mp3 resolution setting.
H2 Zoom is for:
1. Anyone that wants to record seminars & conferences
2.Amateur & professional media people
3.Theatrical rehearsals
4.Any music event
5.Songwriting sessions
6.Band rehearsals
7.Podcasting
The H2 Zoom's front screen grill is very cool looking, reminding me of an old classic studio condenser microphone from the 40's or 50's. Most people will be satisfied with all of it's popular features and there may be a few that some people won't even care for... unless you're a musician like me, in which case you'll also love the handy guitar tuner and metronome that are built-in.
It can be hard to edit on the little screen... but you can just plug it into your computer via the USB and edit away.
The unusual W-XY microphone pick-up patterns work like this: a front 90 degree cardioid, a rear 120 cardioid and a360 degree polar pattern.
This unique H2 Recorder feature with it's four microphones can give you several types of surround sound recording. You could for example position the H2 Recorder in the center of a rock band and get a nice surround sound mix with the kit in the rear and bass and guitars all around.
