For most visitors Thailand is about beaches, shopping and nightlife. However, the country has more than 100 national parks to its credit that are a perfect playground for a host of adventure activities. From whitewater rafting to spending time on the pristine beaches to exploring endless mountain trails, there is something for everyone to try. The parks vary in size from the tiny Sirinat National Park in Phuket to the massive ones such as Khao Yai in central Thailand. However, size notwithstanding, the parks are a haven for the nature enthusiasts. Listed here are just some of the national parks in Thailand.

Khao Yai National Park

One of the largest national parks in Thailand, Khao Yai National Park encompasses mountain ranges, waterfalls, forests, and grasslands. The park hosts more than 300 species of birds and 70 mammal species including tigers, gibbons, elephants and deer. It is about a few hours drive from the capital Bangkok. There are some campsites and bungalows in the park but if you don't wish to camp here, you can stay in a hotel or Thailand villa in Bangkok or rent an accommodation in the nearby wineries.

Sirinat National Park

This tiny park is located in Phuket. It doesn't have much except a small forest and pristine beach but it is perfect for those who wish to be away from the crowds and commercialization of Phuket. You can rent a bungalow or stay in a campsite within the park.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park

Khao Sam Roi Yot translates to mountain of three hundred peaks. The stunning peaks apart, the park also has beautiful beaches, marshes, caves, salt flats and even small islands. You can camp in the campsites or bungalows. The park is about one hour drive from Hua Hin.

Doi Inthanon National Park

The national park is named after the Doi Inthanon mountain range, which it surrounds. The park houses the most diverse bird population in the country, some ancient Buddhist temples, and several mountain trails. Basic accommodations and bungalows are available at two different locations within the park.

Kaeng Krachan National Park

This is Thailand's largest national park located in Petchaburi province.  It is home to undeveloped jungle, mountain ranges, rivers, waterfalls and a reservoir. Besides, it is a haven for the bird enthusiasts given that it is a natural habitat of several bird species. You can also see several mammals and other animals. Campsites and bungalows are available in the park; however the park is just a few hours drive from Bangkok and so if you don't wish to camp here you can stay in Thailand villas or hotels in the capital.
