Lake Shasta, California Water Activities
- Lake Shasta maintains launch facilities for boaters and parking facilities with public restrooms. A variety of rentals are available, including ski boats, fishing boats, canoes, personal watercrafts and kayaks. The lake offers an annual pass for boaters allowing them to skip the entrance fee station and head for the lake ramps. Handicap parking is also available at each ramp. Floating debris, including logs and trees, are frequently seen on the lake and must be taken into account when using boats.
- Wakeboarding and water skiing are frequent activities on Lake Shasta. The nearby Shasta Wakeboard School (shastawakeboardschool.com) offers lessons and sells boards, water skis and other swim gear. The school is located at the Holiday Harbor Resort (lakeshasta.com), a Lake Shasta resort located where the McCloud River feeds into the lake. Lessons are also available at the Next Level Wakeboard School (nextlevelwakeboard.com), located at the Jones Valley Resort (houseboats.com) on Lake Shasta.
- The nearby Waterworks Park (waterworkspark.com) in Redding, California, provides additional activities for those staying around Lake Shasta. Rides for all ages are available including a lazy lagoon, kids playground, three huge serpentine water slides and the Raging River, an extreme water slide attraction. Season passes are available, and the park can be rented for exclusive use for corporate events. The park also features a birthday party area that can be rented for hours at a time. Several hotels, including a Best Western (bestwestern.com) and a Hilton Garden Inn (hiltongardeninn1.hilton.com), are located within five minutes of the park.
- Lake Shasta offers a swimming area at one of its campgrounds, the Beehive Point Shore Campground. At the time of publication, the campground is available for swimming for $8 per day during the regular season and is free during the off-season. Tent and trailer camping is available, and on-site restrooms are available. Campers can enjoy cooling off in the lake and playing games with waterproof balls, boogie boards and other floatation devices. Play a game of Frisbee, throw a baseball around or build a sandcastle in between swimming sessions.
