How to Be a Contestant on Wheel of Fortune

106 21

Wheel of Fortune is one of the longest-running game shows on television, with millions of hopeful contestant applications pouring in each and every year. The show has recently streamlined their initial application process and moved into the digital age with online applications. There are three different applications available, so make sure you choose the one that's right for you.

General Rules for Applicants

Wheel of Fortune has some restrictions in place for potential contestants, which can be found at the top of each application form.

These rules include:
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old. (Teen applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 18.)
  • If you've been a contestant in any version of the show, you are ineligible to apply again.
  • If you have appeared on a game show, reality show, or a dating/relationship show in the past year, or more than three of these shows in the past ten years, you are ineligible to apply.
  • Applicants, their friends, or their families must not be employed by Sony Pictures, any television station that broadcasts Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy, or any related advertisers, among others. See the application form for a complete list.

Also important to note are the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, both of which are linked at the bottom of each application form. Read them carefully before checking off the boxes indicating that you agree to their terms.

Adult Application

This is the default Wheel of Fortune application, and the one that will apply to most potential contestants. The application form itself is very straightforward and doesn't take long to complete.

You will be asked to provide standard information like your name, age, and address, along with a wide variety of questions relating to your personal tastes and hobbies. These questions are in place to find potential contestants who will fit into upcoming theme weeks on the show.

College Registration

Wheel of Fortune runs regular college-themed weeks during the course of each season. Applicants for these college-based shows must comply with the rules outlined above, and be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student.

The application form for college students is much shorter than the adult application, asking only for standard identifying information, college attended, and what year the applicant is in.
