    • 1). Move the refrigerator away from the wall. Locate the fitting where the valve will attach.

    • 2). Take out the tubing from the ice maker installation kit, which will be either copper or plastic. Cut the tubing to fit with a pipe or copper tubing cutter or scissors (if your tubing is plastic), if necessary. Connect the tubing to the back of your ice maker. The fittings necessary for this job will be included in the kit.

    • 3). Locate the place where you can tap into the saddle valve. This will either be the main trunk line in your basement or under the kitchen sink. If it is in the basement, you may need to use a ladder to reach it.

    • 4). Feed the tubing from the ice maker to the water supply. This may require some drilling to allow the tubing to move; use an electric drill with a 3/8-inch drill bit.

    • 5). Install the saddle valve to the tubing according to the installation kit instructions.

    • 6). Attach the saddle valve to the tubing that is connected to the back of the ice maker. Use the fittings that were included in the installation kit.

    • 7). Open the saddle valve to allow water to flow to the ice maker. Check for any leaks. You may have to tighten some fittings. If there are no leaks, leave the valve open and allow the ice maker to work.
