Americans are infamous for the limited vacation time they take every year. Assuming you still have a job in this economy, why not consider a vacation that is different than the normal run of the mill hotel and pool affair? Yes, I am talking about heading off to a dude ranch.
Dude ranches were considered an off the list vacation for the longest of times. Most people simply didn't know they existed. Then the movie "City Slickers" came out and all that changed. The hilarious movie made dude ranches all the rage and it became the trendy vacation. As with all trends, that soon died off and most people have forgotten about this incredibly vacation opportunity.
Okay, so how does a vacation on a ranch work? Well, it depends what you want. There are ranches where you really live a cowboy type of life and can do things like go on cattle runs. Then there are versions where the location is more like a resort in a beautiful outdoors environment. There is horse riding, but there is also a pool, hot tub and so on. Finally, there are dude ranches that are nothing but regular resorts with a Western motif. There is no right choice per se. You can just choose based on what you want to get out of the vacation.
Dude ranches can be found throughout the west, midwest and Canada. There are fewer choices along the east coast of the United States, but they do exist. Perhaps the best thing about these vacations is almost all of the locations are in incredibly picturesque places. Some can be wide open spaces where you can see the stars as clear as day like in Arizona or heavily wooded areas where the air is ridiculously clear and crisp like Wyoming. Regardless, there is a little something for everyone.
