How Do You Change the Ignition on Your 1984 Toyota Camry?
- 1). Remove the negative battery cable with a wrench. Remove the positive battery cable with a wrench. Wait a minimum of 90 seconds before proceeding to allow the air bag system to discharge.
- 2). Turn the ignition cylinder to the "ACC" position using the ignition key. Use a punch or other small tool to press in on the ignition cylinder lock. The hole for the lock on your Camry will be located in the steering column, directly below the lock cylinder.
- 3). Pull the ignition cylinder straight out of the steering column while pressing in on the lock. Turn the new ignition cylinder to the "ACC" position with the key and insert it into the steering column while pressing in on the lock.
- 4). Reconnect the positive and negative battery cables and tighten the connections with a wrench.
