How to Carry a Serving Tray
- 1). Wipe the bottom of your tray to make sure that you have a clean and dry surface to hold.
- 2). Bend your elbow so that your hand is flat, with the palm up and your arm parallel to the floor.
- 3). Set the tray on your hand so that your palm is near the center of the tray and the tray extends slightly onto your arm. Walk holding the tray in this position until it feels comfortable in your hand.
- 4). Load your tray beginning at the center. If your tray contents are of different sizes and weights, place the larger and heavier items in the center. Add the next items in a circle around the center item, placing one at the12-o'clock position, another at 6, then 3 and 9. This will keep the tray easier to balance because the weight will be more evenly distributed.
- 5). Carry the tray with your arm flat. When you remove an object from the tray, adjust your palm slightly to make up for the slight unbalance that this action will cause. Always remove objects in the same manner as you loaded them, to keep the weight evenly distributed.
