Free Online Places to Display Book Ads
- Probably the easiest way to post a free ad for your book is to announce its existence in a newsfeed, especially the ones available on Facebook and Twitter. If you don't have an account, signing up is fast and free. If you do have an account, simply click "share post" at the top of your homepage, and type your message. Your ad will appear on the homepages of everyone with whom you're connected as a friend. Doing this at least once per week will ensure that more people see it before it's moved down the newsfeed by other announcements.
- In addition to major social networks, many specialized groups exist through the host Ning.com. For example, the community my Crazy Sexy Life is an online hub for holistic living and wellness. Likewise, Social Moms is an online community of mothers who dicuss parenting, and participate in a blog network together. By searching for and joining a few groups whose interests are related to your book, you will be exposing your book to its potential audience. Post discussions on the group's main page which relate to parts of your book. This will get people actively engaged in coversing about your writing. Include a link to purchase your book every time you post a discussion topic, and multiple viewers will see this free ad.
- Using the social networks you've joined as a guide, make a list of blogs and podcasts that relate to topics covered by your book. Then, begin regularly engaging with your sites. Every day, leave at least one sincerely thoughtful and intellectually stimulating comment in response to new posts on each of these sites. After you have made the comment, sign your name and include a link to information about your book. You may also think of a way to summarize your book in one sentence. Include that with the link. In addition to becoming an active commentor on these readership-supported sites, begin commenting on the social networks as well, and always include a link to information about purchasing your book.
- If you don't already have your own website, now is the time to start one. You may even want to consider starting more than one. For example, you can reach various audience sectors by making a general website to promote your work, a blog to display new writing and a podcast on which you can give commentary about life, interview interesting people and read portions of your book. You may design and post ads for your book anywhere you like on your websites for free. Whenever you leave comments on other sites, post dicussions to your groups and post to your social networking newsfeeds. You may now leave links to your websites as well as directly to your book purchase information. This will give readers more ways to engage with your work, and will increase the number of times they are exposed to ads for your book.
- After you've become an active commenter and established your personality on your favorite blogs, create and upload a video trailer about your blog to YouTube. Then contact the creators of the blogs you've targeted with a private e-mail. Provide links to all your personal websites, your book purchase information and the video trailer. Tell targeted bloggers that you will send them a free copy of your book if they agree to upload the trailer to their websites, along with a review of your writing or an interview with you. Additionally, create posts for your newsfeeds and group discussion boards in which you make an open call for bloggers to review your book.
