Add a modern twist on a traditional Valentine's Day card by using your child's hand as a template. Choose construction paper or card stock in pink or red. Trace the outline of your child's hand with a pen and help the child cut out the outline. Use markers or gel pens to decorate by writing the child's name and a special message to Dad, or take inspiration from Valentine candy messages. - Bake some of Dad's favorite cookies.homemade valentine's cookies image by Lijuan Guo from Fotolia.com
Help the kids bake one of Dad's favorite goodies. Decorate cookies or brownies with Valentine's Day sprinkles or red, pink and white icing. Let the kids write their names or "Dad" on the cookies for a personalized touch. Wrap the cookies in a white bag and have the children decorate the bag with a personalized message. - Cut hearts from construction paper or card stock.valentine card image by Leonid Nyshko from Fotolia.com
If dad loves tea, buy a box of his favorite type of tea and decorate the tags. Trace two small hearts on red card stock and cut them out. Write a Valentine message to Dad on either side of the hearts and affix each heart to the tag of the tea bag with tape. If Dad is off from work that day, the kids may want to serve him tea and breakfast in bed. - Most dads are busy, and a coupon for a quiet evening, a movie with the family or a free car wash can be a relaxing break. Using a red gel pen, have kids make "IOU" coupons for their dad on plain white typing paper. Let the kids get imaginative. Add chores, time with Mom or anything else Dad might enjoy. After the coupons are created, make a cover for the coupon book out of red card stock. Have kids decorate the outside of the book with ribbons, buttons or other embellishments.
