Gas Credit Cards for Students
- The Open Road Card by Discover is a credit card that's expressly meant for students at both the college and high school level. This card offers rebate on gas, restaurant and other select purchases, in addition to a 0 percent introductory rate for the first six months and a rate between 13.99 and 20.99 percent after that. There is no annual fee for this card. The card also offers up to a 1 percent cash back bonus on non-travel related purchases.
- The Chase Freedom credit card is a card that offers benefits for gas purchases but can be used for any credit card purchase. The Chase Freedom credit card offers you a 5 percent cash back bonus on quarterly purchases in categories that include gas and restaurants. The card has a 0 percent introductory rate for the first 6 months on both purchases and a 0 percent introductory rate on balance transfers. The rate after that period is variable, but may be as low as 11.99 percent for both.
- The True Earnings card, which is issued through a joint venture involving Costco and American Express, is geared toward those with an established credit history. There's a 0 percent annual fee for Costco members, and the card offers a 3 percent cash back earning on gasoline purchases. Under this plan, card holders can receive as much $3,000 per year. There's also a 0 percent APR for the first six months for those approved for the card. After this period the rate is variable, but the rate may be as low as 15.24 percent.
- The Divided Platinum credit card from Citi Bank is designed for use by students. The card has an initial 5 percent cash back on qualifying purchases from gas stations, supermarkets and restaurants for the first six months, and then a 1 percent cash back on purchases after that time. There's no annual fee, and the card doesn't require a co-signer, but it does require you to have a "good" credit rating according to Plastic Rewards.
