Meribel Catered Chalets
After the best snow in Meribel for 50 years we are looking forward to the 2014 winter to see if it can be beaten. Whatever happened to "Global Warming"? We certainly got none of this in Meribel this year. It was snowing right up to the end of April. The season started wonderful too with heavy snow in early December. At the end of the season we still had over 2m of snow on the summits. Incredible.
So how to plan for next year. Meribel Catered Chalets are very popular. These provide an all in fully catered ski holiday. The chalets serve a hearty breakfast, afternoon tea and cakes and 3-5 course dinner with wine included. It is a unique British creation and Meribel was at the start of this popular style of holiday.

In Meribel the catered chalets usually employ 1 or 2 chalet hosts. 1 for cooking and 1 for cleaning and driving. These are usually students who have completed a chalet cooking course at a recognised school in the UK. Many chalets have their own private minibus shuttle service to and from the slopes.
Once each week the chalet staff have a night off. You will on this day still get breakfast but no evening meal. This day off is usually Wednesday or Thursday. It is essential to pre-book your restaurant as they are all 100% full usually on both nights. (But especially Wednesday).
Note that most Meribel catered chalets get booked very early for New Year and February school holidays so for these particular weeks try to book well in advance.
