- 1). Write a summary of your qualifications. Many employers in social work require that you specify your qualifications at the beginning of your résumé. This qualification section should include things that you want to especially highlight, such as awards and distinction, years of experience in the field, any specialization, and additional training you've received.
- 2). List your relevant skills and experience. Internship experience are considered favorably, especially in clinical settings. A good CV uses plenty of action words. Since relevant skills and experience is very important in the social work industry, you need to group your experience by section. Make sure to address the job listing by creating sections that directly relates to the posting. For example, if the opening is for a health counselor, make sure you include "Counseling" as one of the sections and "Health care experience" as another section.
- 3). List your research work. Research work can include reports and papers you've written related to the field of social work. Make sure to include the name of your research, the journal or publication it appeared in, the year of publication and any co-authors you worked with. Follow the APA style when citing your research work.
- 4). Include your education, starting from the most recent. Make sure you identify the degree you've obtained, as well as relevant courses you've taken that are relevant to the position. Also add any certifications you've attained and the date you've received them. Below the education section, you may want to add any other proficiencies you have, such as language proficiencies, technical expertise and other licenses such as CPR and first aid.
- 5). Add external volunteer experience you have. Social work is about helping people, and employers want to hire candidates who not only do well academically, but also those who make it a commitment to serve their community. Make sure you list any projects you've been involved in with social work institutions, such as United Nations or Amnesty International.
