How to Turn on a Twist Fuse in a Fuse Box

    • 1). Determine which fuse is not "turning on" in your circuit panel. You can do this by examining the fuse diagram, which will tell you what utilities specific fuses provide power to in your home. If the particular fuse in question does not "turn on," it is blown and must be replaced.

    • 2). Locate the main circuit breaker. If it is a switch, flip it into the off position. If it is a pull-type breaker, which is likely to be the case, pull it straight out. The main circuit breaker is at the top and middle of your circuit panel.

    • 3). Remove the twist fuse that does not turn on by twisting it counter-clockwise until it comes free. If it is difficult to twist out you can use a pair of pliers, but do not exert too much pressure on the fuse end when you do so.

    • 4). Place the new fuse in by turning it clockwise into place.

    • 5). Replace the main circuit breaker if you have a pull-type main breaker. If you have a switch-type, simply flip the breaker into the on position, to the right.
