How to Become a Sports Nutritionist
- 1). Earn a bachelor's degree in sports nutrition. Most states require licensed sport nutritionists to have a minimum of a bachelor's degree. For programs in your area, check out the American Dietetic Association (see Resources below).
- 2). Apply for internship opportunities. While attending your sports nutrition program, apply for internships in sports nutrition at private practices and hospitals. If you need help finding these types of businesses in your area, contact the American Dietetic Association (see Resources below).
- 3). Seek licensure with your state. Many states require sports nutritionists to be certified. This can usually be achieved by completing an application and passing your state's exam. To determine requirements in your area, contact your state's health board.
- 4). Update your resume. Once you graduate from your program, update your resume to reflect your education and experience in sports nutrition. For sample resumes, check out Job Bank USA (see Resources below).
- 5). Apply to sports nutritionist positions. Once you've secured the required education and license, apply for sports nutritionist positions in your area. Some of these positions can be found on job boards like Yahoo! hotjobs, Indeed and Monster. However, you'll find the bulk of these positions on the American Dietetic Association's job board.
