How to Create a Medical Apparel Clothing Line
- 1). Research the type of apparel that medical professionals wear. First, focus on one profession such as nurses. Pay special attention to the closures or lack thereof, the fit, the details such as pockets, length of the garment, waistband details of the pant and any prevalent colors. Research the fabric types and properties of the fabric that make a nurse's uniform.
- 2). Print out pictures of the medical professional at work and the styles that they are wearing.
- 3). Make a list of the most important details of nurse's apparel such as big pockets, hip- length tops, loose fit, elasticized pant waistband, high neckline, etc.
- 4). Visit a fabric store and gather different colored swatches of the same fabric content as your research in step 1 indicates.
- 5). Use the pen and paper to draw silhouettes of nurse's apparel incorporating your important elements from step 2. Pay special attention to the fit when sketching. Most medical apparel is loose and high necked and has either short or long sleeves. Add details to your drawings that you think will make the apparel more visually appealing or more useful to the medical professional.
- 6). Use markers or colored pencils to color in the silhouettes in the colors and prints of the fabric that you've gotten swatches of in step 3.
- 7). Repeat steps 1-6 with another medical profession or professions, such as a doctor.
- 8). Cut out the silhouettes and arrange them on a foam board with the neatly cut swatches of print and color. Add your printed pictures of medical professionals for your customer base.
