Overview - Hot Wheels AcceleRacers, Volume 3: Breaking Point
Hot Wheels AcceleRacers movies are based on the toy car series by Mattel and were originally broadcast on the Cartoon Network. In the first DVD of the saga, rival race teams the Teku and the Metal Maniacs are recruited by Dr. Peter Tezla to compete in exciting racing realms and obtain powerful AcceleChargers before they fall into the hands of the deadly robotic Racing Drones.
The drivers must navigate the realms and the driving challenges they find, while at the same time trying to stay a step ahead of the dangerous robotic drones.
In the animated 60 minute original movie Breaking Point, the AcceleRacers teams enter two new racing realms ? the Neon Pipeline Realm and the Junk Realm. In addition to their arch enemies the robotic Racing Drones, the teams encounter another dangerous adversary, the Silencerz. The Silencerz? holographic cars can mimic anything, putting the Acceleracers? relationships and their driving to the test.
Guide Review/Note to Parents - Hot Wheels AcceleRacers, Volume 3: Breaking Point
For boys who love Hot Wheels cars, the Acceleracers DVD series will be the ultimate thing to watch. With intense story lines and racing scenes, Breaking Point is complex enough to hold the attention of older kids, and exciting enough to interest younger kids as well.
The movie does contain some violence. Opponent racers get into heated discussions, especially two brothers who race each other for the ?leader? position on the Metal Maniacs team.
Also, in each realm the teams must escape the deadly antics of the Racing Drones and the Silencerz. At the end of Breaking Point, one of the racers does not return from the realm, ending the movie on a sad and somewhat scary note.
Some characters are portrayed as rough and tough, with a couple sporting tattoos, and use competitive, menacing language to intimidate other racers. Younger children may be frightened by the robotic woman leader of the drones, who has one glowing eye and plans to eliminate the AcceleRacers.
As the DVD is well done and the story is exciting, kids who love Hot Wheels will likely be very interested in the movies. For parents, if you still have concerns about the DVD content, this may be one you want to watch ahead of time.
