How to Build a Tile Bathroom
- 1). Measure the surface area with a tape measure. This step is important for purchasing the approximate number of tiles for your bathroom. It is advised that you purchase extra in case any tiles break.
- 2). Clean the floor of any debris so that the adhesive may bind to the floor properly. It is also important to remove any other type of flooring materials, such as vinyl, so that the tiles have a base to firmly bind.
- 3). Place and arrange your tiles on the floor "dry." This will allow you to mark any tiles that will need to be cut in order to fit the edges or around obstacles. You will also get an idea of how the tiles will look once they have been laid and set.
- 4). Cut the tiles that need to be re sized or reshaped, with a tile cutter.
- 5). Spread "thin set" adhesive to a small section of the bathroom floor using a notched trowel.
- 6). Place a tile into the thin set adhesive. Make sure the tile is level using a level tool. Once it is in position apply a firm amount of pressure to the tile. Hold this pressure for 1 minute.
- 7). Add tile spacers to each corner of the tile. This is important so that the tiles are equal distances apart from the other. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the full area is covered. Including the edges and reshaped tiles for obstacles. Let it set for 24 hours.
- 8). Remove tile spacers from the tiles.
- 9). Spread tile grout over the gaps between the tiles using a rubber float. It is important to hold the rubber float at a 45 degree angle to insure that sufficient grout fills the gaps.
- 10
Wipe the excess grout off of the tiles using a wet sponge.
