Careers in the field require, at the very least, a bachelor degree in biology or zoology, though sources such as the book "Outdoor Careers: Exploring Occupations in Outdoor Fields" report that advanced degrees, especially doctorates in the field, drastically increase chances of success. Obtaining a degree in zoology entails studying animal science, biology, anatomy, genetics, animal behavior, chemistry, physics, and advanced math, as well as specialized fields such as ornithology, herpetology or mammology. Advanced degrees require students to undertake research and conduct fieldwork in order to complete a thesis or final project.
