When creating a skateboarding-themed bedroom for a teenager, recycle your teen's broken skateboarding gear. Teenagers whom often enjoy the sport of skateboarding will have a large quantity of gear they no longer use. Recycling these items will save you money when completing this bedroom renovation. - When deciding on paint colors for your teen's skateboard-themed room, use his current skateboard as inspiration for colors. Take the colors from his favorite board and incorporate them onto his bedroom walls. Bring his skateboard to your local hardware store, as they can mix paint to match the exact colors on his skateboard.
- Shop around to find the best deals on framed-pictures or posters of famous skateboarders to incorporate into your teen's skateboarding room; current popular skateboarders include, Tony Hawk, Jean Postec, Ryan Sheckler and Rodney Mullen. Hang or tape the pictures and posters throughout his bedroom.
- Purchase rolls of skateboard grip tape and tape the entire headboard and foot-board the bed with the grip tape. Grip tape is sold in a variety of colors, patterns and pictures. This is an uncommon decorative touch, which will ensure your son has a one-of-a-kind look and feel to his bed.
- Recycle your son's used or broken skateboard decks for shelving or end tables in his skateboard-themed bedroom. Purchase shelving brackets and attach a skateboard deck. Purchase legs to assemble a homemade end table with old skateboard decks as the tabletop.
- Paint, or allow your teen to paint a graffiti wall mural depicting a skateboarding scene, for example, a skateboarder doing a trick. Graffiti is common artwork among skateboarders; some form of graffiti in a skateboard-themed bedroom would give the room an urban feel. This could be as simple as your son's name painted on his wall or as extreme as an entire wall in his bedroom painted in graffiti.
- Purchase skateboard decks, or use your teen's old ones, to construct a skateboard bed frame. Remove the wheel and track on the skateboard. This will ensure that you have a clean skateboard deck that is free from all hardware. Gently screw the skateboard decks onto his bed frame in an upright position. Do not over screw the decks, as this will result in cracking the board.
- Purchase skateboard-themed bedding and window treatments for his room. For example, bedding depicting graffiti, famous skateboarders' or skulls. This will complete the skateboard-themed bedroom.
