East Tennessee offers ample opportunities for golfers to hit the links at public and municipal golf courses throughout the region. The Knoxville area has well over a dozen public courses itself and is listed as second in Golflink.com's list of top 10 places to play golf in Tennessee as of April 2010. Cookeville and Chattanooga are also on the top 10 list for their courses. - Knoxville's Willow Creek Golf Club is a championship 18-hole course spread out over almost 7,000 yards. It is a par-72 course that is rated four stars by Golf Digest. The club's website briefly describes each hole, noting things such as trees and bunkers that golfers should watch out for and suggests which club would be best to use. The club offers tournaments, lessons and clinics. It has a pro shop.

The golf course was built in 1984 and features streams and rolling hills. Sometimes wildlife can be seen on the course. The golf course is part of Audubon International's Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, which helps to preserve the environment and wildlife habitat. The course is open to disabled golfers who are asked to make advance arrangements with the course's general manager or golf pro.

Another nine holes were added in 1968. Today, the course is par-70 on its 18 holes over 6,600 yards. It offers four sets of tees. The club says its longest tee is challenging to low-handicap golfers, while higher handicap golfers will find the shorter tees challenging. Cookeville offers numerous tournaments from April through October.
