Cheapest Place to Live in Oregon
- According to My Dream Locale, the three counties with the lowest property and real estate taxes are Tillamook in the northwest corner, and Curry and Josephine in the southwest corner of Oregon.
- Most counties in Oregon have low real estate taxes, but seven of 36 are listed with higher taxes: Multnomah, Marion, Polk, Wasco, Crook, Umatilla and Union counties. These are mostly in the north-central part of the state.
- The Oregon coast has the most mild climate of the state. It seldom reaches freezing in the winter or above 80 degrees F in the summer, and has affordable housing outside of tourist towns.
- This medium-sized town in eastern Oregon has an IT and nursing college called Oregon Institute of Technology. Because it's away from the main interstate, it offers a nice lifestyle at a lower cost.
- You'll run into high cost of living in Portland, Salem and Ashland, but you can find many small towns along Interstate 5 that offer cheaper rent. Sutherlin is close to a larger town of Roseburg, while Drain is about 40 miles from Eugene, the largest city in central Oregon.
- Eugene is large enough to have everything a city does, with cheaper rent than Portland, so it might be the place to live if you want to commute by bicycle.
