Sprays

• Barrier or perimeter sprays on the house foundation and the part of the lawn close to the house can minimize the number of ants that enter the house. Effective sprays contain diazinon, carbaryl or pyrethroid as the active ingredient.
  
  

Granules

• Granular bait products also can control ants in the lawn. Sprinkle the bait beside ant mounds, along pavement cracks and other areas where you have seen ants. Foraging ants will take the insecticide back to the nest and share it with the colony.
  
  

Considerations

• Applying ant control products to the entire lawn rarely solves ant problems. It also can kill beneficial ants that can control other lawn pests. A band of two to six feet around the foundation and two to three feet up the foundation wall will suffice.
