The Removal of a Tree From a Lake's Dam
- 1). Put on chest waders before entering the water. Chest waders will act as a protective cover, keeping your clothes dry and helping to keep you safe from sharp objects.
- 2). Investigate the area around the tree to ensure safety. You may encournter multiple unknown obstacles in the water. You need to know about any before entering with a heavy chain.
- 3). Carry the tow chain out to the tree and wrap it around the base. Wrap the chain tightly to keep it from slipping off when when you're pulling.
- 4). Attach tow chain to the tow hitch on the truck. Typically, you can just pop the chain links through the hitch to form a tight hold.
- 5). Turn the truck on and select the tow option. This will provide extra horsepower you'll need during a tow in order to carry a heavy object without putting too much work on the engine.
- 6). Drive forward slowly. Keep a maximum speed of around 10 to 15 miles per hour to avoid pulling the chain off the tree base. Drive forward until you remove the tree from the dam.
- 7). Cut the tree into smaller sections with a chain saw for easier removal. This allows you to load the tree in pieces to dispose of the tree properly.
