How Do I Adjust the Black Screen Around a Window?
- 1). Remove the screen frame from the window and lay it on a flat surface. Most screens frames are held in place by small tabs that can be loosened with a screwdriver, or through pressure from flexible screen tabs which will require you to lift or push the screen in one direction to free it from the window frame.
- 2). Locate the open end of the window screen spline, the black rubber material that holds the screen in place. Pry one corner free with a flat screwdriver. Be careful not to rip the screen. Once one end of the spline can be grabbed, pull the spline free of the screen frame.
- 3). Center the screen material over the window screen frame. Make sure that you have an even amount over each edge of the frame. As the screen material has been cut to fit the window, there will be very little overhang.
- 4). Place one end of the spline material at one corner of the screen frame, on top of the screen material. Push the end of the spline into the groove in the screen frame, locking the screen material into place.
- 5). Use the grooved roller of the spline roller tools to secure the spline into the screen frame. Lightly pull on the opposite end of the screen material to keep it tight as you roll the spline tool along the spline material. Keep the screen tight as you turn the corner of the screen frame. Continue along the perimeter of the window screen frame with teh spline tool until the screen is firmly in place.
- 6). Use a razor knife to trim the screen material that will have stretched slightly and may be hanging outside of the spline material. Replace the screen frame in the window.
