After the piousness of Holy Week (semana santa) in Sevilla the April Fairs of Sevilla opens in the last week of April. A grand spectacle the fair offers visitors one of the most interactive community celebrations in the entire country.
The party begins with the ceremonial switching on of the lights, which is accompanied by sherry with friends, family and any one that happens to walk by. Things start to get interesting around midday when a long parade of horses goes through the city. The night is filled with singing (cantaores) and dancers (bailaoras) and is a truly overwhelming sight. Although not as big as Sevilla or Madrid, Malaga is still in the heart of bullfighting country and offers a great deal more for the curious tourist.
