How Can I Setup a Wireless Internet & Ethernet in My Apartment?
- 1). Plug an Ethernet cable into the back of the modem you were provided by your Internet service provider. Most modems only have one Ethernet port located on the rear panel of the device.
- 2). Plug the other side of the Ethernet cable into your wireless modem. Even the smallest wireless modems typically have five individual Ethernet plugs on the back -- one labeled "IN" and the rest labeled with either consecutive numbers (1 through 4) or "OUT." Use the plug labeled "IN."
- 3). Plug a second Ethernet cable into any one of the other ports on the back of your wireless router.
- 4). Plug the cable into the back of your computer. Most laptop and desktop computers have at least one Ethernet port.
- 5). Plug in the power cables for your wireless router and Ethernet modem. Both devices will power on. The modem will be providing an Internet connection to the wireless router, which will begin simultaneously creating a wireless network and providing your computer with a connection via the Ethernet cable.
