    • 1). Spread newspaper on the worktable and place the mower on top.

    • 2). Unscrew the handle from the cylinder at the base of the handle where it meets the wheels. Use either the Phillips head or flathead screwdriver, depending on the assembly. Set the handle assembly aside.

    • 3). Turn the cylinder on its left side so that the drive wheel is at the top of the horizontal cylinder. Remove the c-clip from the drive wheel with the locking wrenches. Lift off the wheel from the cylinder.

    • 4). Examine the drive gears located under the wheel you removed. Replace damaged gears. Oil the gear wheel with the lubricating oil.

    • 5). Apply a thin coat of grinding paste to the blades. Use the file to sharpen the blades, moving the file along the width of the blade slowly but evenly.

    • 6). Reshape bent blades with the hammer. Gently pound the blades back into shape. Replace severely damaged blades with duplicates. The owners manual will have the part number and a method of ordering parts.

    • 7). Re-install the drive wheel working in reverse order to how you removed it. Set the c-clamp in place. Set the cylinder from a horizontal to a vertical position. Push the cylinder forward to rotate the blades. Examine the movement of the blades and the cutting bar; check for rubbing between the bar and the blades or if the blades and bar has gaps between them. The blades should move freely with no visible space between the bar and blades.

    • 8). Insert a strip of paper into the blades to determine their sharpness. The bar and blades should cleanly slice the paper.

    • 9). Reattach the handle to the cylinder. Screw the handle into place.

Set the mower on the grass. Push the mower to test cut the grass. The mower should make an even cut across the blades in the grass.

Adjust the height levels of the roller shaft to realign the blades. Find the adjustment notches at each side of the cylinder near the wheels. The mower must be the same height on both sides.
