    Flush Valve

    • The flush valve is the main component of the toilet system that regulates how much water flows in and out of the toilet. The flapper and the overflow tube are part of the flush valve. The flush valve assembly sits at the bottom of the tank.

    Fill Valve

    • The fill valve in a toilet is the mechanism that allows the water to come back into the tank and fill back up. It stands at the top of a long column and is attached by a hose to the overflow tube.

    Overflow Tube

    • The overflow tube is the part of the system that supplies the water directly to the toilet bowl. It is attached to the water source.

    Flapper

    • The flapper is the rubber part of the flush valve. Its function is to seal the water flow and only let water in and out when you flush. The flapper fits over the flush tube and if the seal isn't tight enough then there can be water leaks which can and will result in high water bills. It can be identified by its location at the bottom of the tank.

    Refill Tube

    • The refill tube is just a small hose that connects the water control valve (ballcock) with the overflow tube. This is how the water gets to the toilet bowl after flushing. It is found at the top of the tank.

    Float

    • The float seals the fill valve once the water has reached the correct level in the tank. It is a large ball that floats at the top of the water in the tank.

    Water Control Valve

    • This part of the toilet system controls how much water comes into the back of the toilet tank. It is activated when the toilet is flushed and it stops once the water has reached the fill mark at the back of the tank. The water control valve is sometimes referred to as the "ballcock." The float is attached to it and it is part of the fill valve.
