  A baby's christening is a major event in a baby's life, as well as the lives of the baby's parents and godparents. Christenings are often celebrated with a party, dinner or reception and people often give the baby gifts on the day of his christening. Choosing a christening gift can be more difficult than choosing a gift for a baby shower because the gifts are typically more spiritual, personal or religious, but there are many good options.
  
  

Bible

• Give the child a Bible on the day of his christening. You could choose a leather Bible that he will be able to use for many years. Have his name and the date of his christening inscribed on the front of the Bible. You could also choose a children's Bible that he will be able to use when he gets a bit older. These Bibles are usually illustrated and are written in a way that is easy for a child to understand. You could also opt to purchase story books about different Bible stories.
  
  

Monetary Gift

• Rather than giving the child a traditional gift, many people opt to give a monetary present. Talk with the child's parent and find out if a college fund has been set up. If it has, contribute to the fund. You could also give a donation in the child's name. Because many religions that practice christening focus on helping the disadvantaged, starting the child's life off with philanthropy will probably be greatly appreciated.
  
  

Wall Hangings

• Present the child with a wall hanging for her room. This is something you could even make yourself. For example, go to a craft store or a home improvement store and select a plain wooden cross. Next, prime the cross and paint it in a color that complements her room. Then, paint her name or initials onto the cross, along with the date of her christening.
  
  

Blanket

• Another good idea for a christening gift is a baby blanket. Choose a soft, cozy blanket that the baby will love being wrapped in. Then, have a corner of the blanket monogrammed with the baby's name or initials. Add the date of the confirmation. You could also have a Bible verse embroidered onto the blanket.
