Mickey and Maggie’s House

Philip prepares to deliver bad news about Nick’s project. “As terrific as your new invention sounds, I’m afraid it’s never gonna see the light of day,” previews Philip. “Are you freaking kidding me?” asks an appalled Melanie. Nick states that he got an acceptance letter from the foundation, who gave him approval to license the technology. Philip apologizes, but on behalf of the foundation, he’s going to have to rescind the approval.

Melanie lays into Philip for reversing the decision. Philip affirms that as CEO of Titan, he is supposed to review all financial decisions by the foundation, and the letter was sent without his knowledge or approval. He assures Nick that his alternative fuel project shows a lot of promise, but he still has a lot of tests to run. Melanie surmises that Chelsea put Philip up to this. Philip insists that he didn’t even know about the letter until recently. He advises Nick to go back and examine his theorems, pinpoint the flaws, and fine tune them until he gets the positive results, then he can resubmit. Nick agrees to get him the new data as soon as possible and thanks him for the second chance.

After Philip leaves, Melanie fumes how Philip is full of himself. A devastated Nick apologizes to Melanie for not getting the money yet. Melanie insists that she cares about him and it’s not just about the money. Nick assures her that they’ll figure it out where all the discrepancies are and promises that they’ll get it approved.

He invites her to get a bite to eat at the Brady Pub before he goes back to the office, but she declines for now. “Have fun at work, Honey,” she jests.

Philip comes back and Melanie tries to slam the door in his face. He states that they have a lot to talk about. Philip glances through a magazine and remarks how he would hate to see her credit card bill, noting the $250 pair of jeans in the magazine. He derides how she has no friends aside from Nick and she calls him a jerk. She rants how Chelsea’s spreading rumors about her, believing she derailed Nick’s project. Philip insists that he’s the one who made that decision and Chelsea had nothing to do with it. He accuses Melanie of only being after Nick’s money and advises her to look elsewhere if she wants some quick cash. Melanie wonders why he’s decided to hate her so much. He claims he doesn’t hate her and admits that he actually sees a bit of himself in her. “Am I supposed to be flattered by that?” she questions. He refers to her as tenacious, strong-willed, and someone who knows what she wants and goes after it, then calls her as a spoiled little brat. She insists that she genuinely cares for Nick and they’re good for each other. Philip stares into her eyes and believes she’s wrong for Nick, but predicts he can handle a girl like Melanie.

Cheatin' Heart

Max fixes Nick a drink at the bar. Nick hands him the letter which reveals that his field project has been accepted. Max congratulates him and asks why he’s so bummed out. Nick reveals that the foundation has rescinded the offer, sharing how Philip believes there are flaws in the work which have to be reexamined. Nick implies that his proposal will be fine with the help of a science savvy bartender. Max insists that Nick doesn’t need him, but Nick begs to differ. Max reluctantly agrees to help out, which delights Nick. Nick brings up how Melanie is lacking in the cash department, and she’ll get a share of the profits. Max urges him to fight that, since it’s not Trent’s project. Nick insists that it defaults to Melanie. Max demands to know why he’s bending over backwards for money-hungry Melanie. “Because I’m in love with her,” he confesses. Max is in disbelief to hear that his best friend is in love with his sister, stating that he barely even knows Melanie. “How well do you know her?” retorts Nick, who rehashes how Max loved her enough to try and protect her. Max clarifies that he protected her because he believed she was innocent, plus she’s his sister.

Desperately Seeking Nicole

E.J. is outside on the phone trying to find out where Nicole is.

Brady Pub

Bo and Hope congratulate the new Mayor of Salem, Abe Carver. Evan summons Abe and Lexie to have a picture. Hope believes that Bo has the position of the police commissioner, even though Bo tells her not to jump the gun. Tony approaches Roman and warns him that there’s a chance Stefano was complicit in the unfortunate demise of Mayor Marino, which also means he was complicit in Abe becoming the next mayor. Roman surmises that Abe may turn the job down.

Meanwhile, Evan asks Abe about making his acceptance speech. E.J. comes to the pub needing Bo’s help in finding Nicole. Evan announces that the new mayor would like to share a few words. Abe thanks everyone for their hard work on his behalf and especially thanks Lexie for putting up with him the last several weeks. He expresses how honored he is to be elected mayor, then admits that there’s been a lot said about him and his family during the course of the campaign. He intends to delineate fact from fiction over the next several weeks, but tonight he wants to assure all of Salem that he’s committed to making life better for everyone. “I am honored, and humbly accept this position as your mayor,” he declares, which elicits cheers and applause.

Bo wonders how Nicole can be missing, since she’s in jail. E.J. reveals that he went back to the jail and her cell was empty, recounting how the guard informed him of Nicole’s pregnancy issues and she was transferred to University Hospital, but he called and she’s not there. Bo makes a call and learns that Nicole was moved to the prison hospital ward. E.J. demands to know if the baby’s alright, but Bo doesn’t know. E.J. makes a beeline out of there.

Back inside, Evan brings Lexie a drink and asks where Theo is. Lexie replies that Theo’s at home with the sitter, as he doesn’t do well with crowds. Bo comes inside and fills Hope in on E.J. being worried about Nicole. He smiles how Abe is schmoozing like a pro. Hope states that at least they have at least one elected official who is not in the mayor’s back pocket.
