How to Create a Newsletter on Computers
- 1). Type the content for the newsletter on your computer using a word-processing program. Keep this in a file on your computer. Store all your files related to your newsletter in this folder.
- 2). Select photos and illustrations for your newsletter from your clip-art CDs and save the images that you like in your file folder. Many people creating newsletters on computers use clip-art CDs rather than buying original art because it saves money. These CDs have an operating interface of their own, so to download the images onto your computer, follow the instructions that come with the CD.
- 3). Open up your page-layout program. If you possess solid design talents, you may want to choose an industry-standard page-layout software program like Adobe InDesign or Quark. However, for the purposes of this tutorial, you'll use Microsoft Publisher; it is user-friendly for the inexperienced newsletter maker and the program often comes as part of a basic package on many IBM computers.
- 4). Choose the newsletter template on the left side of the menu. You'll see it when the program opens up. Choose a newsletter template. If you find a template with the right layout but not the right colors, you can change those easily in the same menu. Name the file and save it in your newsletter file on your computer..
- 5). Import your graphics by going to the "Insert" tab at the top of the menu bar. Click on "Insert" and choose "Picture," then "From File." Select the pictures you want for your newsletter from the file you created.
- 6). Add your text by clicking on the ready-made text boxes in Publisher. They will become highlighted in black. Then, go to your word processing document, copy the text and paste it into the highlighted box. Your text will replace the template's text.
- 7). Print out your newsletter and mail it out.
