Since production ended on All My Children in August, Cameron Mathison (Ryan) has been keeping busy. He’s a correspondent for Good Morning America, he teaches meditation classes, and his newest venture, the Yahoo reality webseries Ultimate Proposal is an Internet hit. In only five days, the webseries has had an impressive 1.75 million views and over 2,700 comments.

Cameron told the women of The Talk that he loves being a part of the series because it is “an extremely fun, extremely feel-good reality show, which we all know are few and far between out there.

We have a team of experts who help guys propose to their girls in meaningful, elaborate ways,” he explained. “It emphasizes things I don’t think we see that often in reality TV – commitment, fidelity.”

Watch the clip of one of the couples featured on Ultimate Proposal, Josh and Katrina, here:

“[Josh] loves to sing so he wrote this beautiful song for his girl and the Ultimate Proposal team set up an elaborate scheme at the L.A. County Fair Karaoke Contest,” said Cameron. “[Katrina] had no idea.”

“The thing I love most about the show is, yeah, it’s elaborate and there are cameras and that whole deal but we’re not losing that intimate moment, that heart connection,” he explained. “It’s not all just smoke and mirrors. This is about true love, this is about real commitment. The moment when the woman realizes that all of this, everything is because he wants to propose to me in this way, it gets you every time.”

The actor also told the story of how he proposed to his wife Vanessa. “We fell in love skiing on this one ski trip,” he said.

“So a year or so later I decided to bring her to Vail and took her to the top of the mountain and had her climb up through this deep snow for a nice photo and she was kind of annoyed at me. I set up the camera for a picture. She thought that’s all it was. As I’m setting up the camera, I pull out the ring, I set the timer and I proposed to her. Then I had a champagne lunch arranged at the bottom of the mountain for my family to celebrate down there too.”

Despite his ultra-romantic gestures, Cameron admits “If I had this team that I get to work with on this show I would have done even better.”

Cameron’s winter wonderland proposal was just the beginning of the adventure for the couple, who have been married for seven years and have two beautiful children, son Lucas, 8, and daughter Leila, 5. “They’re the greatest kids in the world,” he said.

A few weeks before production wrapped on All My Children, I talked with Cameron and his on-screen love Rebecca Budig, who plays Greenlee. Cameron revealed his passion for meditation. He not only practices it regularly but has also started teaching it. “In New York, there was a class near where we lived,” said Cameron. “My wife was like, ‘I think you should check this out.’ I had trouble sitting in the back of a cab going a few blocks without zoning out without earphones and phone calls and distractions. I was always focusing so much on external things and not being alone with my own mind to relax and settle in. [Meditation] was really hard, massively difficult, but in time it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done. I don’t use it for [career]. Maybe it helps with those things. Maybe that’s a back door effect, but the reasons why I go to it are to increase my patience, my love, my generosity, my compassion, my wisdom, my concentration and try to be a benefit to others. It’s not to get more jobs or score better on the golf course. I do it just to increase my serenity and peace of mind and be more of a benefit to those around me. And if it does help my work or golf game, great, but that’s not why I do it.”

Rebecca agreed that meditation, among other things, has changed Cameron for the better over the years. “I knew him when he was a boy and he became a man,” said Rebecca. “He’s grown spiritually. He’s my little Budda. He’s my spiritual guide, and he’s a really good teacher.”

Cameron also had kind words for Rebecca during their final days of working together at ABC. “My kids, in the car the other day, asked me who my best friend is. I said that my wife [Vanessa] was my best friend and they said. ‘No, no – a friend.’ I sat there and I thought. And then Vanessa and I kind of turned to each other and said it would probably be Rebecca.”

And with that, Rebecca and Cameron were both teary eyed. “Don’t make me cry. I hate you!” Rebecca said, laughing and crying at the same time.

Not to worry. During his recent appearance on The Talk, Cameron also confidently announced to the audience that All My Children will be online in January 2012 as planned and said, “I think we have to get used to watching our shows online.”
