Marie Curie, first person ever to have honored with two Nobel Prizes was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity. She proved that the world respected women inventors and their inventions She was Polish by origin and along with her husband Pierre Curie she discovered two new elements radium and polonium. She studies the x-rays emitted from these elements and found that they were able to kill tumors which was a revolution in the medical field. She chose not to patent her invention. She shares her Nobel Prize in Physics with her husband. It turned out that women inventors and their inventions were a boon to modern day life.

Valerie Thomas of America invented a futuristic illusion transmitter and received patent for it in 1980.Her illusion transmitter is an extension of television images with three dimensional projections giving an illusion that the images exist right in front of you in your living room. Her invention could get more popular than television in the near future. Valerie Thomas worked as a mathematical data analyst and a project manager for many of NASA's high profile projects.

Ellen Ochoa a PhD in Electrical engineering from University of Stanford designed an optical system to detect imperfections in repeating patterns. Her invention is effectively used for quality control while intricate parts are fabricated in a manufacturing unit. She patented her invention in the year 1987. She also has many more patents under her name including an optical system which can be used to manufacture things robotically or these can also be used in robotic guiding systems. Dr.Ellen Ochoa, apart from being a scientist in NASA is also an astronaut and has spent 719 hours in space. Her latest mission was a 10 day mission in 1999 aboard the space shuttle Discovery.

A mother and daughter team Betty Rozier and Lisa Vallino invented an intravenous catheter shield for safer use of IVs. Their invention protects the patient from accidental dislodging of the needle and also from patient tampering. They received the patent for this invention in 1993.

Alice Parker of New Jersey invented and patented an improved gas heating furnace for use in central heating systems in the year 1919. Krisztina Holly developed first ever computer generated hologram with full color reflection in 1991. Along with other scientists, Michael Cassidy and John Barrus she invented "The Stylus" which enabled customers to order goods with bar code scanning. The stylus will feed the information through a touch tone phone to the seller. Another invention of hers is Visual voice with Cassidy Brookins and Chris Brookins. It is a computer telephony development tool based on Windows enabling computer engineers to create all in one telephone systems with provisions for voice mail, fax transmission and call placing and answering.

An astonishing discovery by a 12 year old girl from Canada, Rachel Zimmerman helps people with communication difficulties communicate effectively using her ‘Blissymbols'. Her invention greatly helped people with mental disabilities such as cerebral palsy to communicate. Her invention used certain symbols which were placed on a page or board and can be pointed using a special touch pad by the people with difficulty. These symbols automatically get translated to a written language by Blissymbol printer.
