How to Activate a Root Account in Mac OS X
- 1). Select "System Preferences" from the Apple menu, then click on "Accounts."
- 2). Click on the padlock icon. Enter your name and password in the pop-up window. Click the blue "Login Options" bar at the bottom of the users list. Click the "Edit" or "Join" button in the bottom right of the window.
- 3). Click the "Open Directory Utility" button, then click the lock in the "Directory Utility" window. Type in the administrator account name and password. Click "OK."
- 4). Open the "Edit" menu and choose "Enable Root User." Choose "Edit " again, then "Change Root Password." Choose a password and verify it.
- 5). Click the "Apple" menu. Scroll to "Log Out," then login as the new root user.
