How to Restore the Hotkeys on a Laptop HP
- 1). Shut down your laptop and disconnect the AC Adapter. Remove all external devices you may have attached to the laptop.
- 2). Remove the battery from the laptop. This is accomplished by unlocking the battery from the bottom, rear or side of your laptop; depending on the HP model. After at least one minute, reinstall the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter.
- 3). Restart the laptop. Look for the “Quick Launch” icon and Menu Bar. Refer to your “User Manual” as a reference to determine if the hotkeys on your laptop are operating correctly.
- 1). Return your laptop to an earlier configuration by accessing and using System Restore. This procedure oftentimes re-enables hotkey functionality. This procedure should be used if a “Hard Reset” was unsuccessful.
- 2). Click the “Start” icon, open “All Programs,” “Accessories,” “System Tools,” and “System Restore.” Follow the on-screen prompts and restore your laptop to an earlier date when you are certain that your “Quick Launch” buttons and other hotkeys were functioning properly.
- 3). Restart your computer so that the reconfiguration is complete.
- 1). Reinstall the appropriate drivers and utilities for your laptop. This is an option in the event you cannot restore hotkey functionality from either a Hard Reset or System Restore.
- 2). Write on a note pad or have readily available your Service Tag, Product Number or Model number. Visit the HP website. At the HP homepage click the “Support and Drivers” tab and follow the on-screen instructions to access the “Drivers and Downloads” appropriate for your laptop model and build.
- 3). Download the appropriate “Quick Launch” utilities; multimedia drivers and all “hotkey” fixes applicable to your laptop. Install and run the download manager provided by HP to insure proper download and installation.(See, Reference 1)
- 1). Reinstall your operating system, drivers and utilities in the event the above mentioned procedures are not successful. Using the installation media provided by HP is recommended because other installation media may not use the same hotkey configurations.
- 2). Insert your HP installation disc in your CD-DVD drive and follow all on-screen prompts to reinstall your operating system and utilities. You will need your Microsoft Product Activation Key to complete the appropriate Windows OS installation.
- 3). Update all utilities and drivers after reinstallation. Additionally, refer to your User Manual to determine if hotkey functionality is as described.
