    • 1). Shut down all of the programs and applications running on your laptop. Turn off the machine. Disconnect all cables and the power cord.

    • 2). Flip the laptop over and find the long thin battery compartment at the top of the machine. Slide the lock latch, which is at the bottom left corner of the compartment, to the left. Slide the release latch, found at the bottom right corner of the compartment, to the right. Slide the battery out of the compartment.

    • 3). Touch an unpainted piece of metal to remove the static electricity from your body.

    • 4). Find the memory compartment cover in the center of the computer. It has one screw fastening it to the computer. Remove the screw with your Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5). Separate the clips on either side of the memory module and slide the memory module out of the slot.

    • 6). Match the notch in the new memory module with the knob in the slot. Slide the new module at a 45-degree angle into the slot. Press down on the module so it lays flat. The clips will secure on either side of it.
